What if every thing you have done was just a dream and then you woke up?
I think that the main character is in disbelief that his dream as a child is coming true and hes trying to find some one for reassurance but can't find anyone because he's not good at making friends.

I agree that the main character can't believe that he actually found someone to teach him how to save the world. He's finally found a teacher.
